Building Tomorrow’s Skills in Today’s Charities

The skills people need to thrive at work are shifting fast. The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 notes capabilities like analytical thinking, resilience, and working with AI as increasingly essential. But what do future skills look like in the charitable sector?

In this session, Andy will facilitate a roundtable to explore which skills matter most, where are the gaps, and what creative steps we can take to build a future-fit charity workforce.

We will consider which future skills the sector may be overlooking in light of our values, mission, and culture, as well as innovative ways to help these skills flourish within different organisational contexts.

The outcomes of this session will help shape a whitepaper report and supporting resources.

DEI Hard: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Explained

Join Shakil Butt as he explores some of the key themes from his brand-new book, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Explained. This fantastic guide demystifies EDI and shows how to turn good intentions into meaningful, everyday action. Delegates will also have the opportunity to get their hands on copies of the book during the event.

In this engaging session, Shakil will unpack what EDI really means in practice and why it’s vital to creating workplaces where everyone can thrive. Whether you’re new to EDI or looking to deepen your impact, this session will leave you equipped and inspired to champion change and build truly inclusive organisations.

Skills for a Thriving Planet: How HR and L&D Can Drive Sustainability
From your People team to your whole organisation – you hold the key to turn sustainability from a buzzword into real behaviour change.
This session will explore how HR and L&D teams can embed sustainability mindsets and behaviours across the employee lifecycle, and experience live activities that reveal how to turn values into everyday practice.
Natalie Ainsworth blends her expertise in both L&D and Sustainable Development to support People professionals to explore what sustainability really means within the context of learning and development. From leading enterprise-wide learning strategies to leading global community investment initiatives, she believes that every role can become a sustainability role.
Natalie will share practical ways to embed sustainability thinking into L&D strategies, enabling HR and learning professionals to drive behaviour change that benefits individuals, organisations, and the planet. Expect “ah-ha” moments, practical takeaways, and ideas you can use immediately all designed to make learning (and sustainability) stick.
How Clear Goals Prove L&D’s Value

In this practical and inspiring session, Gill will explore how clear goals can help you measure impact, prove your worth and protect your budget.

You’ll leave the session with practical tools, renewed confidence, and the motivation to make your impact more visible, measurable, and compelling.

Mentoring Matters: Unlocking Potential Through Connection

In this interactive session, Dani will share insights into how mentoring has transformed his career and can impact individuals, teams, and organisations. We’ll dive into real stories, compelling statistics, and live audience polling to uncover the current state of mentoring and its benefits in overcoming workplace challenges.

We’ll explore why mentoring is an enjoyable and effective learning method, its role in driving engagement, change, and inclusion, especially in the charity sector. We’ll also distinguish mentoring from coaching and other forms of development, highlighting how L&D professionals can utilise mentoring to unlock potential.

The second half of the session will be an energising Speed Mentoring activity, allowing participants to connect, share skills, and identify support areas. The goal is to leave the session with potential mentor or mentee matches.
