Michelle's session

Changing the conversation about compliance
Michelle Parry-Slater, Kairos Modern Learning

This session explored how organisations can rethink compliance training, moving away from repetitive “tick-box” learning towards engaging, relevant experiences that influence everyday behaviour. It highlighted the importance of creating a culture where compliance, safety and ethical decision-making are part of daily conversations rather than something employees simply complete once a year.

Key takeaway: Compliance shouldn’t just be completed, it should be lived every day, with learning designed to keep people safe, informed and engaged.

Darren English' Session

Case Study: Minstead Trust
Darren English, Minstead Trust

Darren shared how Minstead Trust built a learning and development function from scratch, moving from compliance-focused training to a wider culture of continuous learning. The session highlighted the importance of understanding organisational needs, building relationships, developing managers and creating accessible learning opportunities that support both people and organisational goals.

Key takeaway: A strong learning culture isn’t created by courses alone; it grows through consistent opportunities for people to learn, reflect, apply and grow.

Scout's Session

Case study: Scouts
Joshua Barnbrook and Monica Enzo, Scouts

This case study reflected on the power of mentoring, as well as exploring how to build a successful mentoring culture. It highlighted the importance of making a strong business case, promoting mentoring consistently, involving leaders and creating opportunities for people to learn and grow from others both inside and outside their organisation.

Key takeaway: Mentoring works best when it becomes part of everyday learning and development, rather than a one-off initiative.

Darren AI Session

Robot Surfers, 007 and the Wisdom of Abraham Lincoln
Darren Richards, Charity AI Partners

This session explored how charities can use AI effectively, from basic chatbots to advanced AI agents, with practical applications across fundraising, recruitment and everyday tasks. The key message was “humans lead, AI scales”. AI can improve efficiency and impact but human judgement, relationships and accountability must remain central.

Key takeaway: Embrace AI as a tool to enhance people’s work, while putting clear governance and safeguards in place.
