We are proud to be a Certified B Corp!
But what does a B Corp Certification actually mean…
At the Charity Learning Consortium (CLC), we’ve always believed that learning should create positive change.
Every learner we support and every organisation we work with is part of our mission to strengthen charities and purpose-driven organisations.
What is a B Corp?
Certified B Corporations™ (B Corps™) are businesses that have been independently verified as meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Rather than focusing solely on profit, B Corps consider the impact their decisions have on people, communities and the environment.
The “B” stands for Benefit, creating value for people and the planet as well as for shareholders. As a Certified B Corporation, we’re part of a global community of businesses working towards a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable economy.
Certified B Corporations™ are companies verified as meeting standards for social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. B Corp certification is awarded by the non-profit B Lab and recognises businesses that balance purpose with profit.
Why we chose to become B Corp certified
Supporting the third sector has always been at the heart of what we do.
While we’ve long been committed to making a positive difference, becoming B Corp certified gave us the opportunity to independently assess how we operate, not just what we deliver.
The certification process challenged us to look closely at every aspect of our organisation, including:
- How we support our team
- How we work with members and partners
- Our governance and decision-making
- Our environmental impact
- The contribution we make to our wider community
It wasn’t simply about meeting a standard. It was about ensuring that our values are reflected in the way we run our business every day.
What does this mean for our members?
For the charities, non-profits and third sector organisations we work with, our B Corp certification provides independent verification that we’re committed to responsible business practices.
It reflects our commitment to:
- Operating with transparency and accountability
- Continually improving our social and environmental impact
- Building long-term relationships based on trust
- Putting people at the centre of our decision-making
We’re proud that our purpose extends beyond delivering high-quality learning. We want our business itself to have a positive impact.
Certification is just the beginning
One of the things we value most about the B Corp movement is that certification isn’t the finish line.
Certified B Corps are expected to continue improving over time, regularly reviewing their practices and adapting as standards evolve. It’s a commitment to continuous improvement rather than claiming perfection.
That’s a philosophy that aligns closely with our own approach to learning; there’s always room to learn, develop and do better.
Looking ahead
Becoming a Certified B Corporation marks an important milestone for the Charity Learning Consortium, but it’s only one step in our journey. We’ll continue investing in our people, supporting the organisations we work with, and looking for new ways to increase our positive impact.
Thank you to our members for being part of that journey with us. Together, we can help create stronger organisations and a more positive future.
